Paper Wasp (Polistes): Family Vespidae Paper Wasp

Predators of caterpillars. Size about 1/2" - 1" (12 - 25 mm) long. The wasp stings the caterpillar which paralyzes it and then it places it in it's nest for food for the developing wasp larvae.


Yellow Jacket Wasp: Family Vespidae

Predators. Abdomen is banded black and yellow. Females sting and all can be a pest around garbage. Female overwinters in a nest.
