Western Blood-red ladybug (Cycloneda polita)

This small red ladybug is common in Skagit county Washington on the leaves of fruit trees. It is known to feed on mites, aphids and scale insects. Two lateral black spots on the white area of the head shield give it the appearance of two large eyes. It has no black spots on wing covers.
